Future Meetings
We generally intend holding meetings every six or seven weeks. Everyone on the mailing list will be kept informed of these and other ROUGOL initiatives.
6:30pm for 7:15pm
Dave Holden of APDL has kindly agreed to visit ROUGOL on the evening of Tuesday 4th September 2001. This is therefore (provisionally) our next meeting - please pencil it into your diaries if possible!
The venue is the offices of Peter Julian and Associates (Architects), 6-8 Tiverton Street, London SE1 6NZ. Access is gained by pushing the bell, and someone will let you in.
This is a return visit to ROUGOL for Dave, who first visited us nearly a year and a half ago. Then, he gave us a wealth of information about a wide range of products including the DataSafe parallel port backup device, RISC World CD-based magazine, PD CDs, RISC OS upgrades, and much more; including useful information on related topics.
Since then, a great deal has happened. RISC World magazine has grown considerably, Dave has spent a while as Acting Chairman of RISCOS Ltd (in which he is the largest private shareholder), has taken over sales of RiscAction products and sales and support for iSV Products, has released a huge variety of newly updated RISC OS software (from a variety of authors) under these banners, has been involved in distribution and demonstration of Ovation Pro, has become centrally involved in the promotion of the potentially revolutionary Omega computer, has released a specially configured complete RISC OS 4 Mico computer (including HD and CD) for the same price as the original BBC Micro (399ukp); and probably some other things which I've forgotten!
All of these things will be under discussion, and many of them will be on display. In particular, we are hoping that Dave will be able to demonstrate one of his special edition Mico computers. For anyone who has an ARM2, ARM250 or ARM3 computer, like the A3x0, A3000, A4x0, A5x0, A3010, A3020, A4000, A5000, this is an ideal upgrade option that includes modern capabilities as well as a special bundle of software added by APDL. For those who have StrongARM Risc PC systems already, it is an ideal low-cost second RISC OS system. See it in action and under comparison...
David will not be able to demonstrate the MicroDigital Omega computer, which is still undergoing fine tuning. However, he knows a great deal more about this than most of us, and is likely to give some insights into the situation on various fronts, as well as other updates and hints as to which items of speculation may be mis-directed!
David will also hopefully be able to bring along stocks of some of the APDL hardware and software which he will be presenting, so do bring along your cash or cheques to pick up some bargains unique to ROUGOL.
Tiverton Street is just a minute's walk from Elephant and Castle Tube and Rail station. This station can be reached via the Bakerloo line, the Northern line (Bank/City branch), British Rail, and many bus services. It is one tube stop from Kennington, two from Waterloo, three from Bank.
From Elephant and Castle, follow Newington Causeway for a very short distance, take the first right into Rockingham Street, then immediately the first left into Tiverton Street. Try http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ (and enter the postcode) for a map.
If you have difficulty locating the venue on the day, try phoning Peter on 020 7234 0112 - alternatively, if you need someone to meet you at Elephant & Castle or at Waterloo, please email dgs *before Friday* and he will see what can be arranged.
If you require any further details, please contact us.Details of future meetings are to follow. We hope to have a number of unusual, and exciting, meetings for our members' enjoyment in the coming months. Are you on our Mailing List?
