    About ROUGOL

    [ Home | Contacts | About RISC OS ]

ROUGOL is a not-for-profit organisation consisting of RISC OS users in London and the south-east. It draws a certain amount of inspiration from MAUG, the similar group in Manchester, with which a number of its committee were previously involved.

Since its formation in September 1999, the group has replaced MAUG as the fastest-growing RISC OS user group in the world, with membership exceeding 100 by early 2000.

The aims of the group are:

    • To give those in London and the surrounding areas the chance to see and hear about the latest developments in the RISC OS world, with visits from prominent developers and other companies
    • To provide an opportunity to discuss RISC OS developments, to exchange technical knowledge, and solve other users' problems
    • To assist schools, colleges, charities and other organisations in the London area to make the best possible use of RISC OS systems
    • To support charitable initiatives in the RISC OS community; the charitable events run by Paul F Johnson of MAUG have raised tens of thousands of pounds
    • To assist local developers with product testing and other work
    • To bring to market members' own RISC OS software
    • To assist other RISC OS groups (such as the ARM Club and the Association of Acorn User Groups) in running major RISC OS events such as the RISC OS '99 show
    • To keep members informed by e-mail of important RISC OS developments (both in the south-east and elsewhere), and to create a comprehensive website providing information of use to RISC OS users in the area around London
    • To provide user feedback and other information to RISCOS Ltd and other developers; it has also been suggested that the group should get involved in "re-vitalising" the RISC OS Foundation newsletter
    • To maintain an "open membership" policy, similar to that of MAUG, whereby visitors can drop in to events that they find of interest, without needing to pay to attend. Costs are kept low by using e-mail as the main method of communication; speakers and committee members do not have travel or telephone expenses reimbursed.

ROUGOL maintains close links with RISCOS Ltd, the Association of Acorn User Groups, and the ARM Club, and equally close (but more informal!) links with a number of Acorn and ex-Acorn developers in the area.
